Former UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen (25-11-1) is now free to re-apply for a new license after sitting out his suspension from the California Sate Athletic Commission. And it seems that Wanderlei Silva (33-10-1, 1NC) wants to be the one to welcome him back to the UFC. Specifically, ‘The Axe Murderer’ wishes to “kill him. I kill him fast.”
Sonnen failed to get re-licensed last month, leaving many to think that he wasn’t able to re-apply for a new license until May of 2012, but the CSAC clarified the situation saying that was not the case. This makes Sonnen eligible to re-apply for a new license in California, or another state, as of yesterday.
Speaking to MMAFighting.com, CSAC exec George Dodd explained Sonnen’s eligibility status to them.
“(Sonnen) can be removed from the suspension list and he is able to re-apply to any agency or any commission. In California he would have to appear before the Commission before the Commission would license.”
Sonnen has sat for almost a year since his loss to Anderson Silva last August, it doesn’t mean though, that he has sat idly by on the sidelines.
The fighter has kept his usual tirade of trash-talking, mostly on Twitter (@Sonnench), much to the ire of one Wanderlei Silva who told MMAFighting.com (transcribed by ESPN) that he is ready to “kill him.”
“Sonnen… I kill him. I kill him fast. This guy talks a lot of bulls***, he talks s*** about a lot of fighters,” Silva told MMA Fighting.
“Don’t talk it about me because that’s dangerous, one day we’ll see each other again. I’m gonna want to know why you just hide behind a computer.”
Asked if he would accept a fight with Sonnen, Silva answered: “Of course, I’ll have him and I’ll have Belfort. Two good names. I’ll fight both. I’d fight Brian Stann but not right now. I don’t like Sonnen or Belfort – it’s better for me.”
