For those pushing for a boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Kamaru Usman, Dana White has a message for you.
On Saturday night at UFC 268, Kamaru Usman retained the undisputed welterweight title with a decision win over Colby Covington. He also notched his 15th consecutive UFC win, a mere victory shy of Anderson Silva’s record.
Usman’s performance was recognized and lauded by the MMA community, including UFC president Dana White. During the post-fight presser, White had some big words for “The Nigerian Nightmare.”
“If Usman doesn’t exist, Colby Covington is the champion here. Usman, this guy’s just the best ever. He’s the best welterweight of all time. He is on his way to possible GOAT status, and Colby Covington is one tough dude. He is so tough,” White told reporters.
At this point in his career, there aren’t many options left for Usman. That made him ponder on a possible “pound-for-pound” crossover with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. White, however, isn’t a fan, unless it happens in the UFC Octagon.
“I watched the Canelo fight tonight. You don’t want to fight Canelo. Come on, man. Let’s stop this shit,” he said.
“If Canelo wants to fight over here, let’s do it. He don’t want to box Canelo.”
Now with five successful title defenses under his belt, Usman also improves to a record of 20-1.
