UFC lightweight title contender Dustin Poirier will face Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 this weekend, but that hasn’t stopped those asking about a potential fourth fight with Conor McGregor.
Poirier will get his second shot at the lightweight title in an exciting stylistic matchup with Oliveira, who will be making his first title defense. Oliveira earned the belt over Michael Chandler earlier this year after Khabib Nurmagomedov retired.
Poirier and McGregor may still have unfinished business after their trilogy was abruptly stopped after McGregor shattered his leg in the first round. While the fight itself wasn’t turning in the right direction for McGregor in most eyes, it left more questions than answers following the event.
During a recent interview with MainEvent, Poirier reacted to McGregor’s recent claim that he’ll get the next title shot following his recovery.
“I mean, if we’re looking at this as a sport, he has to win a couple first,” Poirier said. “If we’re looking at this as a cash grab and entertainment business and not a sport, give him a title shot. Let’s go.”

UFC president Dana White, Poirier, and others have already hinted at Justin Gaethje potentially getting the next title shot. Oliveira and Gaethje have also had their back and forths in interviews and could set up an interesting fight as well.
Before his fights with McGregor, Poirier fought his way back into the title picture with a five-round war against Dan Hooker last year. He knocked out McGregor at UFC 257 in arguably one of the best performances of his career.
McGregor has hinted on Twitter that he’ll get the next title shot, disputing recent claims from White and Gaethje. Regardless, it appears that a fourth fight between Poirier and McGregor could happen as soon as next year.
