When WEC adds lighter classes, lightweights likely headed to UFC
The WEC lightweight division may migrate to the UFC sometime in the near
future, UFC president Dana White said on Tuesday, though there is
currently no exact timetable for the move.
In a conference call promoting Saturday’s “WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber” event
on pay-per-view, the UFC president said it made little sense to keep
the one division where the two Zuffa-owned promotions overlap.
“As we start to add more weight divisions to the WEC – when we start
adding lighter weight divisions – that [155] pound division would
probably make sense just to put it into the UFC,” White said.
