Another fight week, another last-minute cancellation.
UFC middleweight slugger Sam Alvey was left high and dry after opponent Phil Hawes suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw. They were scheduled to bang on the UFC Vegas 47 main card this Sat. night (Feb. 5, 2022) inside APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I was supposed to fight February 5th in the UFC,” Alvey told his social media followers. “I was supposed to, I am not anymore. The fight got scrapped as of yesterday.”
“We’ve been training hard for Phil Hawes,” Alvey continued. “I got the call yesterday saying it’s not happening. I had pizza last night, I had cereal last night, which was pretty good. UFC has paid me before, they haven’t said anything yet, but there have been times when they haven’t paid me because they just rescheduled the fight for two weeks later.”
Hawes has yet to make a statement on the extent of his injury.
No word yet from the promotion on whether or not Alvey vs. Hawes will be booked for a later date. If not, expect the “Smile ‘N” veteran to resurface on one of the upcoming fight cards later this month, or perhaps in March (see the current UFC schedule here).
