Cuban-born Australian middleweight, Hector Lombard (30-2-1, 1NC), extended his unbeaten streak to twenty-four with his second round victory over TUF 7 alum Jesse Taylor on Saturday night.
Both fighters debuted with the upstart Australian Fighting Championship promotion, who held their second event at the Sports and Aquatic Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
Lombard would earn his nineteenth straight win, as well as the inaugural AFC middleweight title, by forcing Taylor to tap in the second round after securing a heel hook submission. The submission came after Taylor attempted to attack Lombard’s leg, which was then reversed by Lombard who forced the tap at 1:26 of the second.
During the post fight interview, Lombard was asked his thoughts on the recent win by UFC champ Anderson Silva and how he would fare against the top ranked pound-for-pound fighter.
“I wouldn’t be frightened of him,. I would go in there to take the head off.”
Lombard currently holds three middleweight titles with the Bellator Fighting Championships, Cage Fighting Championship, and now, the Australian Fighting Championship promotion.
