With ONE Fighting Championship holding it’s first ever event this past Saturday in Singapore, the upstart promotion will look to put on an even better show the second time around.
Their first event, “Champion vs. Champion” consisted of a ten-bout card showcasing several exciting matchups. There were, however a few bouts that featured mismatched opponents but that was to be expected for any new promotion with a shallow talent pool.
ONE FC CEO Victor Cui is certainly looking to increase the depth of those waters by adding fighters like UFC veteran Akihiro Gono (32-16-7), and undefeated Indonesian fighter Fransino Tirta (10-0-1) to the roster.
According to MMAWeekly.com, both fighters were in attendance at this past weekends Singapore event, also indicating from sources that both fighters had been in talks with Cui.
Although, the ONE FC show did not deliver on the promise that it would be the “UFC of Asia” it was certainly an entertaining event, which saw a packed Singapore Indoor Stadium. Cui noted to the website that his promotion has plans in the works for another eight events, so it appears that ONE FC won’t be going anywhere for the near future except up.
