A heavyweight bout between Russian heavyweight fighter Fedor Emelianenko (31-4) and Jeff ‘The Snowman’ Monson (42-12) was confirmed by M-1 Global officials on September 12.
Officials announced the date and venue on Thursday.
The Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia will host the bout which will take place on November 20 as part of an M-1 Global event.
Emelianenko will fight on his native soil for the fist time since April 2007 when he submitted Matt Lindland at a Bodog Fight event. ‘The Last Emporer’ has hit a rough patch in his career losing three straight fights on Strikeforce cards. His most recent defeat came at the hands of Dan Henderson, who TKO’d the Russian in the first round of their July 30 event.
Monson, who was the first to announce the matchup last week, enters the bout on a loss after he had an eight-fight win streak stopped in June. The loss came against current heavyweight Grand Prix tournament finalist, Daniel Cormier, at the Overeem vs. Werdum show, with Cormier earning a unanimous decision. The bout with Fedor marks Monson’s M-1 Global promotional debut.
