UFC welterweight, Belal Muhammad makes a comparison between Khamzat Chimaev and Conor McGregor, claiming both just make claims on Twitter.
With his recent win over Gilbert Burns, Belal Muhammad is in a prime position to challenge for the welterweight title. However, with Chimaev’s next fight rumoured to be against former champion, Kamaru Usman, a win for him could also see him with a strong case for being the next challenger.
While speaking to The Schmo, Muhammad revealed that he was skeptical that the Chimaev vs. Usman fight would take place. He also took the opportunity to criticize Chimaev, commenting on his regular social media callouts and drawing comparisons to former champion, McGregor.
“This new Twitter age is kind of annoying. Khamzat’s one of the guys, kind of like Conor McGregor,” Muhammad began. “He wants the attention, so he’ll throw out a random tweet here and there, but nothing ever comes of it, right? So, when they say that (Chimaev vs. Usman), I’m like, ‘Bro, that fight’s not happening.’ They’ll talk about it, both say something about it, and then there won’t be nothing else.
“You’ll see, ‘Khamzat’s gonna fight this guy! Khamzat’s gonna fight that guy!’ So, I think it’s literally just talk to stay in the news, stay relevant. If Khamzat makes 170 (welterweight), that would be a great fight. But I doubt he could make 170.” (H/T MMA News)
Chimaev is expected to return on the October pay-per-view card in Abu Dhabi which which will mark over a year since his last fight.
As for Muhammad, he is staying ready and has recently been training under the eyes of UFC legends Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, and Khabib Nurmagomedov at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California.
