Round 1: Body and low kicks from Nunes to start. One minute in. Aldana keeping a high guard. Nunes hits a single-leg, can’t establish. 1-2 up top. She’s leaning on those front kicks a lot. Two minutes in. Nunes steadily advancing, working behind those kicks and her jab. Spinning back kick goes wide. Two minutes to go.
Aldana fairly passive so far, denies a level change. Combinations from Nunes, sharp counter right by Aldana. One minute to go. Nunes tries a counter right. Low kick exchange. 10-9 Nunes.
Round 2: Aldana still keeping the high guard. Oblique kick from Nunes. Aldana denies another single-leg attempt. Trading kicks a minute in. Stiff jab by Nunes, then a series of knee stomps. Nunes fakes a shot, fires a combo, and lands a low kick two minutes in. Solid low kick from Aldana. Nunes looks for a pair of standing elbows, hits a takedown, can’t establish. Counter two-piece and calf kick with two minutes to go.
Solid calf kick from Aldana, who eats a clinch knee in return. Stiff Aldana jab and calf kick. Trading combos in the center. One minute to go. Low kicks from Aldana. Nunes body kick. Uppercut-hook. Aldana tries to follow a head kick with a spinning back kick, allowing Nunes to take her down. Nunes lets her up, then kicks her body and leg. 10-9 Nunes.
Round 3: Nunes committing to early combinations. Aldana still locked behind her high guard. One minute in. Nunes cruising at medium range, firing the occasional jab and either blocking or avoiding everything coming her way. She shoots, can’t complete it initially, follows through to land on top in half guard two minutes in. Nunes staying heavy, solid elbow. Aldana tries to scramble to her feet and gets tripped back down with two minutes to go.
Nunes lands a few shots, lets Aldana up, then shoots back in. She kicks Aldana’s base out and jumps on her back, both hooks in. Aldana slipping out the back door, manages to avoid an armbar. Nunes stands, punches her way off the fence, and resets with a minutes to go. Level elbow by Nunes. Two-piece upstairs. Big knee and punches in the final seconds. 10-9 Nunes.
Round 4: It’s all Nunes so far. Aldana is too gunshy to let her hands go and Nunes is essentially doing whatever she wants. Heavy punches and low kicks. One minute in. Nunes shoots, denied. Oblique kick. Another shot, uppercut and right hand on the exit two minutes in. Aldana just won’t throw the volume she needs to turn this round. Double-leg for Nunes, who lets her up and clubs her with a right hand as she rises. Aldana lands an elbow, avoids an outside trip with two minutes to go.
Heavy 2-3 by Nunes. Two brutal right hands land back-to-back. Aldana comes back with her own straight right, eats a knee for her trouble. One minute to go. Counter right and elbow by Nunes. Low-high 2-3. They trade right hands, then another knee by Nunes. Right to the body. Another monster right hand at the 10-second mark, then a spinning elbow and a shot at the bell. 10-9 Nunes.
Round 5: Nunes powers through a knee to land another double-leg against the fence. Aldana closes up her guard. One minute in. Nunes playing patient on top, landing the occasional punch or elbow. Two minutes in. Nunes works her way to mount, dropping short punches. Two minutes to go.
Aldana briefly regains half guard, then Nuns goes right back to mount. Short, un-postured punches. Back to half guard. Nunes briefly considers an arm triangle. She postures up for some heavy shots in the final seconds. Borderline 10-8, but I’ll say 10-9 Nunes.
Final result: Nunes def. Aldana by unanimous decision
155 lbs.: Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush
Round 1: Both chucking out power kicks to start. Sharp straight punches from Dariush, who briefly slips on a head kick. Lots of pressure from Oliveira, who gets shoved against the fence. He tries to drag Dariush to the mat, ends up in bottom half guard a minute in. Now full guard. Dariush dropping left hands, briefly stands over him to do so. Oliveira spins for a leg, good defense by Dariush, back to full guard two minutes in. Oliveira active off his back, Dariush riding well thus far. Dariush landing shots from guard with two minutes to go.
Oliveira lands an upkick and gets just enough room to stand before hauling Dariush to the fence. They separate soon after and Oliveira cracks him with a head kick before swarming with punches. A clubbing right hand sends Dariush to the mat and Oliveira looks to jump on his back. When the RNC isn’t there, he buries Dariush in punches and hammerfists until the ref steps in.
Final result: Oliveira def. Dariush by TKO (punches)
170 lbs.: Adam Fugitt vs. Mike Malott
Round 1: Fugitt falls short with a head kick, then gets stung by a body kick in return. Malott trying to capitalize with power punches and kicks. Big counter right, body kick behind it. One minute in. Things slow back down. Fugitt falls short with a head kick, eats a body kick. Malott staying on the back foot and looking to counter. Fast head kick from Malott two minutes in. Body kick strays low, Fugitt brushes it off. Fugitt shoots with two minutes to go and gets hurled into side control.
Malott takes half guard. Fugitt working to regain guard, kicks Malott off to stand and separate. One minute to go. Teep from Fugitt, Malott catches it for a takedown into guard. Fugitt trying to use butterfly hooks, then tries mission control. 10-9 Malott.
Round 2: Malott’s kicks and wrestling are controlling proceedings thus far. Fugitt still trying to pressure. Malott does a quick stutter-step to crush Fugitt with a 3-2, then latch onto an airtight guillotine. He sweeps into mount and there’s the tap.
Final result: Malott def. Fugitt by submission (guillotine choke)
145 lbs.: Dan Ige vs. Nate Landwehr
Round 1: Fairly tentative start, both men testing the distance. There’s a good straight right from Ige. One minute in. Nice body shot from Ige as he backs Landwehr to the fence. 2-3 up top. Low-high combo. They trade right hands in the center. Landwehr lands some decent shots in the pocket two minutes in. Landwehr considers a level change, abandons it. Ige to the body. Surprisingly moderate pace so far. Ige low kick with two minutes to go.
Reactive shot from Landwehr, no dice. Ige tries to go low-high. Decent counters from Landwehr, who avoids a combo. One minute to go. Landwehr tries to follow punches with a knee down the middle. Nobody’s really landed clean this round. In the last 10 seconds, Ige rattles him with a nasty left hook, but can’t follow up. 10-9 Ige.
Round 2: Ige looking to work behind the jab. Landwehr low kick, then an eye poke. He changes levels, no luck on the single-leg. One minute in. 2-1 from Landwehr, right uppercut by Ige. Ige’s dipping his head a lot and Landwehr tries to capitalize with knees. More jabs and rights from Ige. Heavy 1-2 against the fence. Overhand left two minutes in. Hard right hand from Landwehr as they exchange. Landwehr ties up, can’t get anything going. Low-high left hooks by Ige. Landwehr turning up the pressure, still getting the worst of the exchanges. Body shots from Ige with two minutes to go.
Ige attacks the body as Landwehr steps in. Hard counter right. Landwehr tries a front kick, eats a low kick. Knee in the clinch with a minute to go. There’s a nice uppercut from Landwehr, who tries to tie up but gets reversed. Ige bangs to the body before clinching against the fence. Hard left from Ige on the exit, then a massive left hook that short-circuits Landwehr. Landwehr trying to roll to safety and manages to survive by the skin of his teeth. 10-9 Ige.
Round 3: Landwehr looks steady as they resume, still unsuccessfully trying to keep the pressure up. Ige landing on the back foot, blasts Landwehr with a heavy counter left and follows with a body shot. Overhand left a minute in. 2-1. Landwehr is several steps behind, still doing his best but outclassed. There’s a solid jab from him and a right hand on the break. Head kick attempt. Two minutes in. Lead right. Heavy counter left by Ige, eats one in return. Suddenly Landwehr’s back in it, landing clean jabs of his own. Step-in knee just misses and Ige changes levels before getting reversed on the fence. Big elbow by Landwehr as they jockey for position with two minutes to go.
Another hard elbow by Landwehr before they separate. He’s staying active and Ige’s output has dropped. There’s a heavy body shot from Ige as I type that. Combinations from Landwehr, eats a right hand in return with a minute to go. Counter right. Landwehr shoots, denied, lands a right hand. Landwehr wading after him with right hands, looks for knees, can’t find the anaconda choke when Ige dips down. Jockeying for position against the fence. They trade elbows in the final seconds. 10-9 Landwehr.
Final result: Ige def. Landwehr by unanimous decision
185 lbs.: Eryk Anders vs. Marc-Andre Barriault
Round 1: Barriault lands a hard body kick, then throws a straight right behind it that floors Anders. Barriault can’t pound him out, settles for tying up and landing solid punches on the way up. Anders reverses and lands knees a minute in. Barriault comes back with a pair of huge elbows, prompting Anders to change levels. Trading elbows at point blank. Knees from Anders, elbows from Barriault. They’re mugging each other against the fence. Two minutes in. Elbows, punches, and knees from both. Anders backs away, then runs into a right hand when he tries to re-engage. Big swings from Anders against the fence. There’s the body kick to right hand again from Barriault. Two minutes to go.
Anders backs him to the fence and lands some hard shots. Clinch knees met by a big elbow from Barriault. Anders trying to tear him up with dirty boxing. Both land hard on the break. One minute to go. Anders barrels in for a level change and eats a hard knee. He tries an outside trip, denied via whizzer. Counter two-piece by Barriault, Anders tries a flying knee. Great round. 10-9 Barriault.
Round 2: Anders pushing forward, walks through a body kick to tie up. Barriault punches his way off the fence. Nasty body kick from Anders. 1-2 behind it. Barriault fires a knee that strays low, pausing the action for a bit. They resume just under a minute in. Body kicks from Barriault. Anders cracks him with a straight left that draws a nod. Body kick to right hand from Barriault. It’s Anders advancing and Barriault circling, though they’re fairly even. Anders punches his way into the clinch, firing knees two minutes in. He runs the pipe nicely for a takedown. Elbow and knee on the way up. Barriault separates, lands a body kick, then throws a knee that launches his foot against Anders’ cup. Another warning for Barriault. Two minutes to go.
They trade body kicks upon resuming. Anders briefly ties up, can’t secure control. Three-piece by Anders. Clinch knees from Anders and an elbow. He’s doing really damn well on the inside, bullying the bully. Body kick and right hand by Barriault once again. Anders answers with the same combo on the other side. 10-9 Anders.
Round 3: Barriault trying to advance early, lands a nice body kick. Anders shoots, denied, both land in close. Body kick and right hand from Barriault, who gets forced back by punches. Anders follows a left hand with a level change a minute in. Knees to the body. They separate and Barriault lands that same body kick to right hand again. Trading punches two minutes in. More Barriault body kicks. Anders to the body. Solid counter punches by Barriault, 1-2 comes back at him. Two minutes to go.
Barriault connects with a good right hand and denies a level change. This round’s swinging Barriault’s way; Anders’ volume has dropped off a bit. Both men landing wekk. Anders changes levels, denied. Barriault comes back with a head kick and left hook that sting Anders with a minute to go. Anders answering back with high heat but eating a lot of shots. He tries to change levels, denied. Good straight lefts from Anders as he wades in. Fun fight. 10-9 Barriault.
Final result: Barriault def. Anders by unanimous decision
