Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, TONIGHT (Sat., June 10, 2023) for the first time in almost four years with a five-round pay-per-view (PPV) main event showdown between Bantamweight roost-ruler, Amanda Nunes, and red-hot Mexican knockout artist, Irene Aldana. In UFC 289’s PPV co-main event, top-ranked Lightweight finishers Charles Oliveira (No. 1) and Beneil Dariush (No. 4) will collide in “The People’s Main Event,” with the winner all-but “guaranteed” a future 155-pound title shot. We’ve got a Featherweight fire fight between Dan Ige vs. Nate Landwehr, too!

UFC 289 ‘PRELIMS’ PLAY-BY-PLAY RESULTS:
185 lbs.: Chris Curtis vs. Nassourdine Imavov
Round one: Curtis on the front foot early, picking away with leg kicks. Hook kick just misses. Left hand downstairs. Both fire body kicks a minute in. Straight right lands for Imavov. Lead-leg kicks to keep Curtis at bay, nice jab behind them. Two minutes in. More low kicks from Curtis, stiff lefts by Imavov in combination. Imavov latches onto Curtis’ back and drags him to his knees. One hook in. Curtis works his way to his feet against the fence. Two minutes to go.
Mat return, back up. Knees to the thigh from Imavov. Curtis turns to face him, then separates. Body kick and 1-2 by Imavov, then a short elbow. Curtis wades in with some hard swings against the cage, prompting a clinch. One minute to go. Imavov quickly slips both hooks in and looks for the RNC. Curtis slips free and tries a knee before the bell. 10-9 Imavov.
Round two: Curtis continuing to advance and trade punches. Slick front kick by Imavov. Flicking jabs, oblique kicks, 1-2 a minute in. Elbow from Curtis on the exit. Combo by Imavov in return. Lead left by Curtis, oblique kick by Imavov. Imavov’s controlling the distance well. Two minutes in. Curtis low kick, Imavov straight right. Both land body shots. Imavov picking him off on the way in. Imavov hauls him to the fence. Elbow and double knee from Imavov on the exit, then a 1-2. Nasty clash of heads when Imavov re-enters and Curtis is feeling it. Curtis is taking his time to recover and claims he can’t see out of his right eye, but begs the ref to give him more time to recover. Alas, there’s just not enough time. Curtis is heartbroken, but they have to call it.
Final result: No contest (headbutt)
125 lbs.: Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Miranda Maverick
Round one: 3-2-2 lands for Maverick early. Low kicks from both sides. Jasudavicius 1-2, Maverick body kick soon after. They tie up and fight for underhooks. One minute in. Trading knees downstairs. Punches from Maverick on the exit. 1-2. She looks a fair bit faster than Jasudavicius. Low kicks as she circles. Well-timed shot, better defense by Jasudavicius, who gets taken to the fence two minutes in. Nice trip by Jasudavicius puts her on top in guard. Maverick slowly working towards an armbar, commits to it with two minutes to go.
Jasudavicius is protecting her arm and Maverick doesn’t have much room to extend. One minute to go. Jasudavicius continuing to protect her arm as Maverick waits for her opportunity. Jasudavicius waits it out until the bell. 10-9 Jasudavicius.
Round two: They trade kicks to start the round. Overhand left by Maverick. Both women landing as they trade in center fence. More low kicks from Maverick. One minute in. Maverick continuing to move laterally and puck her shots. Nice clinch knee and right hand by Jasudavicius into the clinch, where she follows with knees. Maverick exits, avoiding a head kick on the break. Maverick looks for a single-leg, ends up on her back in half guard. She briefly regains guard, back to half. Two minutes to go.
Jasudavidius works to mount, then takes the back. Full body triangle, hunting the RNC. Maverick tries to turn into top position in teh final seconds, can’t, eats punches. 10-9 Jasudavicius.
Round three: Maverick comes out throwing. Straight punches from Jasudavicius in return. Maverick tries a spinning back fist, lands a body kick. Jasudavicius slowly advancing, eats a body kick and answers with a straight right a minute in. Maverick looks for elbows, eats straight punches. Continuing to trade punches. Jasudavicius lands a good knee, then charges after Maverick, hurling dozens of punches. Two minutes in. Maverick trying to come back with combinations and body kicks. Jasudavicius walks her to the fence and they slug it out for a bit. Two minutes to go.
Jasudavicius continuing to march forward and land shots. Maverick tries a desperate single-leg and once again Jasudavicius counters it, forcing her to her knees. Landing shots as Maverick tries to stand. One minute to go. Jasudavicius piling up damage against the fence. Maverick escapes in the final seconds. 10-9 Jasudavicius.
Final result: Jasudavicius def. Maverick by unanimous decision
135 lbs.: Aoriqileng vs. Aiemann Zahabi
Round one: Zahabi answers some early low kicks with a flurry. Aoriqileng continues to pound home the low kicks and winds up getting overeager, allowing Zahabi to clobber him with a counter left hook. Zahabi looks for the walk-off, but is forced to jump back in and pound the semiconscious Aoriqileng out.
Final result: Zahabi def. Aoriqileng by TKO (punches)
145 lbs.: Blake Bilder vs. Kyle Nelson
Round one: Solid left hook from Bilder 15 seconds in. Nelson knocks him back with a straight right. One minute in. Both men going in-and-out, neither committing to anything big. Bilder changes levels and hauls Nelson to the fence. Nelson reverses. Kneeing the thigh two minutes in. More short knees from Nelson, but not much else, much to the crowd’s displeasure. Looking for a trip, no dice. Bilder reverses and exits with two minutes to go.
Bilder coming forward aggressively, landing jabs and throwing power punches behind them. Solid low kick from Nelson. One minute to go. Bilder dials back the pursuit and they go back to the tentative exchanges they started with. 1-2 from Bilder. He catches a body kick, tries to follow with a flying knee. Nelson comes back with some heavy swings, including an overhand right-left hook that gets Bilder’s attention. 10-9 Nelson.
Round two: Some higher-paced exchanges to start the round. Nelson forces him to the fence with some big swings, has to fight off a level change. One minute in. Bilder keeping him pressed against the fence. This stretches on for a bit until Nelson breaks free just under two minutes in. Low kicks from Bilder. Switch head kick appears to land for Nelson. Jabs connecting for Bilder as he advances. Low kick with two minutes to go.
Hard low kick from Nelson catches Bilder off-balance. Front kick glances off. One minute to go. Bilder potshotting off the back foot, neither man landing anything major. Low kicks by Nelson. 10-9 Nelson.
Round three: Both men continuing to target the lead leg. Nelson’s kicks definitely seem like the heavier of the two. Bilder changes levels and hauls him to the fence. Nelson defending a minute in. He gets double underhooks and reverses, then tries to wrench Bilder to the mat. No luck two minutes in. The ref restarts them at range with just over two minutes to go.
Bilder firing potshots, eats a hard body punch. He’s continuing to pursue, throwing from the hip. He waves the crowd on after absorbing a right hand. Body kick by Nelson with a minute to go. Again. Bilder whiffs on a wheel kick, eats a leg kick. Glancing head kick by Nelson, Bilder plays possum for a moment but can’t get a bite. Both swing big for a bit, then Nelson caps things off with a leg kick. 10-9 Nelson.
Final result: Nelson def. Bilder by unanimous decision
125 lbs.: David Dvorak vs. Stephen Erceg
Round one: Dvorak opens with low kicks. Erceg tries a head kick, lands a counter right. One minute in. Solid counter right by Dvorak. No huge action so far; both men leaning on leg kicks and trying to pick their punches. Big counter left by Erceg appears to buzz Dvorak. Two minutes in. Lots of feints on both sides. Hard lead right from Dvorak, his best shot in a while. Another one on the counter with two minutes to go.
Each man punishing the other’s calf. Erceg just misses with a two-piece. Calf kick exchange. Erceg counter right, head kick just misses. One minute to go. Dvorak low kick, counter 2-3 as Erceg tries to open up. Counter left hooks from Dvorak as they continue to punish each other’s legs. Dvorak tries a wheel kick. 10-9 Dvorak.
Round two: Heavy exchange in the center early on. Short left look as Erceg ties up. One minute in. Erceg 1-2 met by a knee. Erceg staying on the front foot, just seems to be a step behind as he eats a counter right. Low-high 3-2 by Dvorak. Solid low kick two minutes in. He catches a body kick, cant use it. Erceg fires a combo, can’t find the mark.. He shoots against the fence, no dice. Body shot, nice jab. Low kicks from Dvorak in return with two minutes to go.
Erceg fighting southpaw, tries a head kick and eats a pair of right hands. Heavy right from Erceg buzzes Dvorak, and as Dvorak retreats, Erceg follows with a clean head kick that sends Dvorak to the mat. Erceg immediately jumps on a guillotine, but Dvorak worms his way free with 35 seconds to go. Dvorak on top in guard, trying to drop punches. Big upkick from Erceg, who eats a huge right on the way up. They slug until the bell. 10-9 Erceg.
Round three: Quick right hands landing for Erceg early on. 1-2s, low kick, teep a minute in. Lead hook. He digs to the body, eats a counter hook and low kick. Dvorak tries a fancy shot and gives up his back, but manages to quickly scramble up and separate. Dvorak catches a kick and hauls him to the fence two minutes in. They separate. Dvorak catches a low kick, tries to scramble to the back, settles for a knee on the break. Strong double-leg puts him on top in half guard with two minutes to go.
Erceg scrambles up, then clamps down on a front headlock and initiates a scramble. Dvorak sweeps into top position and exits with a knee. Right hand with a minute to go. Erceg shoots, gets the body lock, and hunts for the back. Solid knees. 10-9 Erceg.
Final result: Erceg def. Dvorak by unanimous decision
115 lbs.: Diana Belbita vs. Maria Oliveira
Round one: The two meet in the middle of the cage and immediately start throwing heat. Belbita really loading up on her punches. Knee from Oliveira. Flying knee a minute in. Belbita low kick and counter right. Fairly even thus far. Step-in knee by Oliveira after avoiding an overhand. Good flurry from Oliveira into a takedown two minutes in. On top in full guard. Belbita tries to stand, forced back down, tries to elbow off of her back. Two minutes to go.
Oliveira snuffs out an attempt to stand, then falls back for a leglock. Belbita quickly escapes and takes top position, dropping punches. Knee on the way up. They separate with just over a minute to go. Trading leg kicks. Overhand right from Belbita, then a hard left hook. Oliveira plants her feet and trades with her. Heavy overhand right and left hook by Belbita in the final seconds. 10-9 Belbita.
Round two: Right back to trading hands in the center. Belbita forces her way forward with power punches and low kicks, but succumbs to a reactive takedown. Elbows off her back. One minute in. She’s doing better off her back than Oliveira is on top. She scoots to the fence and stands with the whizzer. Oliveira pressing her against the fence two minutes in. Belbita the only one throwing in the clinch so far. Knees to the body. Two minutes to go.
Belbita puts Oliveira on the fence, continuing to land knees. Ref breaks them up with a minute to go. Counters from Oliveira. Belbita catches a body kick, eats a solid shot before putting her on the fence again. Belbita spins her to the mat and drops solid elbows from half guard. 10-9 Belbita.
Round three: Slugging to start once again. Heavy blows from Belbita, then a knee into the clinch. Oliveira separates, lands a solid knee to the body. Belbita continuing to wade after her behind the jab. One minute in. Counter flurry by Oliveira. Oliveira tries a trip, eats knees in the clinch. They separate. Two minutes in. Hard right cross by Belbita. Oliveira comes back with a spinning back fist. Belbita low kick and jab. Back to the clinch, more knees to the body, whiffed elbow on the break. Oliveira giving ground, struggling to find the mark with counters. Two minutes to go.
