Usman Nurmagomedov’s return to action has been delayed … again.
Bellator MMA’s reigning Lightweight champion was set to defend his title in the main event of Bellator Paris next month (May 17, 2024) against Alexandr Shabliy, but an injury has forced him to the sidelines.
Nurmagomedov was last seen defeating Brent Primus at Bellator 300, though the result was overturned to a “No Contest” after it was revealed that the champion had a failed a post-fight drug test, leading to a fine and a suspension from California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).
As for Shabliy, he earned his shot at the 155-pound title after defeating Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 301, earning him his ninth straight win (fifth under the Bellator banner). While there is no confirmed timeline at the moment, the title fight is expected to be re-booked later this year.
As a result of the injury, the Bantamweight title fight between champion Patchy Mix versus Magomed Magomedov will now headline the event. In the co-headlining act, Cedric Doumbe will make his Bellator debut opposite Derek Anderson.
