Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane has been named honorary torchbearer for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris. “Bon Gamin” will get his opportunity during the 24th stage of the relay as the flame moves from the Deux-Sèvres region to Les Sables-d’Olonne, according to MMA Fighting.
“Proud to carry the flame,” Gane wrote on Instagram. “Hoping to see MMA as an Olympic event one day. Meet on June 4 at La Roche-sur-Yon.”
Gane, 34, has not competed since capturing a technical knockout victory over Sergey Spivak as part of the UFC Paris event last fall. The Parisian is expected to return to Accor Arena when the promotion makes its way back to Gay Paree later this year. Hopefully “Bon Gamin” will have someone house sitting while he’s at the venue.
Gane (12-2) is currently ranked No. 2 in the heavyweight division, below Tom Aspinall but above Sergei Pavlovich.
