New York is known for producing some of the toughest fighters on the planet. Not only some of the toughest, but some of the best to ever step into the cage.
Here’s a list of the five best MMA fighters from New York. Check out their stories below and next time you want to place a bet on one of these athletes why not play online roulette.
Jon Jones
We couldn’t make a list of the best MMA fighters from New York without mentioning the GOAT. The Rochester, New York native is heads above every fighter in the history of the sport.
For a decade, Jones dominated the light heavyweight division and was the face of the UFC. Jones took out everyone from Lyoto Machida, Shogun Rua, Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson, and Daniel Cormier twice.
Then to further add to his legacy, Jon moves up to heavyweight after a hiatus to win the UFC heavyweight title. He has cemented his legacy as a legend and arguably the best ever.
Matt Serra
Next on our list of the best MMA fighters from New York is fan favorite and UFC HoFer Matt Serra. The Long Island native had an incredible Cinderella Man comeback to make MMA history.
After winning the comeback season of TUF, Serra earned a title shot against GSP. Everyone counted Matt out, but he shocked the world by delivering one of the greatest KO wins ever.
In 2018, Serra’s accomplishment was acknowledged as he was inducted into the pioneer wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.
Aljamain Sterling
Next up on the list of the best MMA fighters from New York is former UFC bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling. Aljamain was a fighter, who at first didn’t earn a lot of fans with the way he won the title.
Many fans didn’t believe he was a true champ due to winning the title by TKO, but he proved everyone wrong. He went on to beat Petr Yan in the rematch and defended his title two more times against Dillashaw, and Cejudo.
Sterling has now moved up to featherweight where he is going to take his shot at the featherweight title.
Rashad Evans
A list of the best MMA fighters from New York wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Rashad Evans. Rashad made his first impression by winning the 2nd season of TUF as an undersized heavyweight.
Once Rashad earned his contract, he moved down to light-heavyweight and wreaked havoc on the division. His biggest wins were highlight reel KOs of Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin to win the light heavyweight title.
These accomplishments earned Rashad a spot in the UFC HOF in 2019.
Chris Weidman
Last but not least on our list of the best MMA fighters from New York is former champion Chris Weidman. Chris made history by taking out the seemingly unbeatable legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
Weidman then went on to cement his legacy as champion by defending his title three times. Incredibly, Chris has been able to make a comeback from shattering his leg and even winning a fight.
We’re happy to see Chris competing again and wish him success in the last leg of his career.
