One of the biggest names in jiu jitsu was a big part of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 event last night at APEX in Las Vegas — but he wasn’t competing. Instead, Gordon Ryan was at the commentary table alongside TJ Desantis and Brandon Mccaghren to help call the grappling action.

It was a big night for his teammates.

“Four-for-four at FPI 7 tonight,” Ryan wrote on social media. “Helena Crevar and Oliver Taza kicked off the card with two big wins, followed by Giancarlo Bodoni, who looked flawless in his submission win over multiple time world champion, Gabriel Arges.”

“And Luke Griffith who had not only the biggest win of his career, but the best performance of his life, completely dominating and easily submitting 2x and reigning ADCC champion, Kaynan Duarte, who was calling me out a couple years ago saying I was scared of him, despite being absolutely atrocious and getting subbed by our new brown belt tonight. I couldn’t be more proud of Luke tonight. Now is his time.”

“As always, big thank you to UFC for always taking care of me and to Stephen Tecci for running another amazing event. Hope you all enjoyed my commentary. See you all soon.”

Not surprisingly, Ryan had no comment on Nicky Rod’s victory over Mason Fowler, refusing to give B-Team any more soundbites — which Ryan suggests is the only way they make money.

No word yet on if or when the chronically-ill Ryan will return to the grappling mats.
