Poirier and McGregor are bitter rivals, but that didn’t stop Dustin from giving Mac the nod for his comeback fight at UFC 303.

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are forever linked by a trilogy of fights that saw “Diamond” go 2-1 over “The Notorious.”

Because of this, even though Poirier fights Islam Makhachev this weekend (June 1st, 2024) at UFC 302 and McGregor fights Michael Chandler on June 30th at UFC 303, everyone still asks the two about each other.

Despite McGregor being a giant lout in his last fight against Poirier three years ago, Dustin is still giving Conor the nod to beat Chandler. Mac? No such love.

“Both of these guys’ last fight was me,” Poirier said about McGregor vs. Chandler on First Take. “Chandler has had a little bit of a layoff [since] we fought. From my experience being in there with him and just knowing the sport, if Conor is anywhere similar to where he was before the injury with his timing, with his accuracy, the stylistic match-up with Michael Chandler? I think [McGregor] clips him.”

“Chandler covers too much distance not properly, not the best footwork, lunging in with shots, and that’s how you get countered. That’s how, if Conor’s the matador and has the same timing and pop that he had before the injury, Conor’s gonna stop this guy.”

Mystic Mac’s prediction of Poirier vs. Makhachev at UFC 302 didn’t change despite recent photos that imply Makhachev is suffering from a staph infection.

“This inbred lives with staph,” McGregor wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Scruff balls. Whatever you are into, I suppose. He still subs Dustin in the 1st.”

Such eloquence and deep analysis from McGregor, who recently declared his days of talking trash were over. We’ll see if Mac’s still mystic in a few short days when Dustin Poirier takes what may be his last shot at a UFC world title against Islam Makhachev.

And then Poirier vs. McGregor 4 for the lightweight title if the stars align and both men win in June?
