Reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, has been hit with two misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident with drug-testing agents back in March. In addition to assault, Jones was dinged for interference with communications and will appear at a virtual bond hearing on July 17 for Bernalillo County Court in New Mexico.

That’s according to a report from MMA Fighting.

Jones, who turns 37 in just a few days, denies allegations that he threatened to kill the unannounced sample collectors and released security footage of the early-morning incident right here. “Bones” is currently rehabbing a torn pectoral muscle and has been out of action since winning the heavyweight strap back in early 2023.

Jones (27-1, 1 NC) has a history of drug-testing controversy.

Though unlikely, “Bones” could be fined and jailed if convicted on both charges. As it stands, the promotion is expected to book Jones for his Octagon return against former 265-pound kingpin Stipe Miocic at some point later this year. The winner could move on to unify the titles against the winner of this fight, barring post-fight retirement.
