“Stillknocks” could have a rematch coming his way.

Dricus Du Plessis secured his first title defense at UFC 305 last night (Sat., Aug. 18, 2024) when he submitted former two-time Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in the fourth round with a rear-naked choke from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia (watch highlights).

As soon as the fight ended, former Middleweight champion Sean Strickland took to social media to tell Du Plessis it is time to run it back.

“Time for war Dutch man……,” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

Du Plessis and Strickland went five rounds earlier this year at UFC 297, where the South African won a very close split decision to win the title.

UFC CEO Dana White said that Strickland, the No. 1 ranked middleweight, will get a title shot next.

Du Plessis seems to agree.

“If Strickland is the next fight – the people want to see that fight. It’s the fight that people want to see. It’s the fight that people think is the next best guy,” Du Plessis told media at the UFC 305 press conference (watch here). “Going into the Strickland fight, I know now. He can’t handle what I have. He can’t handle what I have to offer. This time, I can finish him. Yeah, he beat Izzy, but now we have a comparison. That’s how you finish someone.”

“Stillknocks” then hit “Tarzan” with a mic drop.

“Does he want to cry again?”

Du Plessis is perfect thus far in the UFC, winning all eight fights – six by stoppage.
