“The Natural Born Killer” is back.
Today (Mon., Oct. 7, 2024), Ariel Helwani announced Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) will take on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim champion Carlos Condit at Polaris 30 on Nov. 2 inside Fairfield Halls in London, England. Condit competed at Polaris 22, losing to Ashley Williams.
Polaris Pro Grappling is Europe’s largest grappling promotion and has welcomed several UFC fighters to compete, such as former Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and Gerald Meerschaert, who got strangled by Craig Jones (watch highlights).
Condit, 40, announced his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) in 2022, a few months after his last fight at UFC 264 against Max Griffin, losing a unanimous decision. “The Natural Born Killer” had a legendary career in which he racked up five Fight of the Night bonuses, two Knockout of the Night checks, and two Fight of the Year candidates against Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks. He won the Welterweight interim championship at UFC 143 against Nick Diaz but lost the unification fight against Georges Saint-Pierre.
MVP is coming off his first UFC loss. He lost a closely contested unanimous decision to Ian Garry earlier this year during International Fight Week, UFC 303.
While this matchup is a little strange because it features two elite, fun strikers, that is what makes it interesting. Helwani mentioned MVP has been “working on his grappling,” and this matchup made sense as a test.
Last week, Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (ADXC) announced Umar Nurmagomedov will grapple Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas.
