Aljamain Sterling knows how to beat Ilia Topuria.
That might sound comical after watching “El Matador” smoke Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway in back-to-back fights, but “Funk Master” has no intention of trading leather with the current UFC featherweight champion.
Not when he can drag him down and force a grappling match.
“If I were to fight him, god willing I beat Movsar and I do get the crack, I do think I have a great style to neutralize his offense,” Sterling said on YouTube. “Bro, most of these guys are striking with him — I ain’t doing that bro. We sitting there looking for the takedown then make it a grappling match. I’m trying to get the dub, I’m not trying to get my head and my brain sent to the next dimension. It’s cool that people are even mentioning that.”
Topuria has more wins by submission (8) than by knockout (6).
Sterling will first need to prove he’s worthy of a 145-pound title shot by getting past undefeated featherweight contender Movsar Evloev at the upcoming UFC 310 pay-per-view (PPV) event later this year at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
