UFC Edmonton went down last night (Sat., Nov. 2, 2024) inside Rogers Arena in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, featuring a men’s Flyweight bout that saw Brandon Moreno defeat Amir Albazi via unanimous decision (more on that here). In the co-main event, Erin Blanchfield defeated Rose Namajunas, also via unanimous decision (recap here).

Biggest Winner: Brandon Moreno

“The Assassin Baby” secured a huge win for himself after dominating Amir Albazi for five rounds because it snapped his two-fight losing streak. Moreno looked refreshed and on point all night, taking it to “The Prince” on the feet, busting up all of his face, in the process. Moreno reminded everyone of the man who once ruled the division, proving that he still has plenty in the gas tank and is very much a threat to the 125-pound throne. Whether or not he gets a title shot next, remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, Moreno is back in a big way and anyone standing in front of him better be on his “A” game.

Runner Up: Erin Blanchfield

After losing the first two rounds to former Strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas, Blanchfield turned it around in the remaining three to secure herself a unanimous decision win over “Thug Rose,” a good bounce back victory after losing to Manon Fiorot in her last outing. After her huge victory, “Cold Blooded” called for a showdown against former Flyweight champion, Alexa Grasso. It’s a good call-out because if she can defeat her then a title shot is next. Blanchfield gets the nod here because she fought through adversity, never gave up and turned it around for herself in one of the biggest fights of her career.

UFC Fight Night: Machado v Ribeiro

Biggest Loser: Caio Machado

There were several fighters last night that suffered their third straight defeat including Pedro Munhoz, Marc-Andre Barriault, and Trevin Giles. But Machado gets the nod here not only for losing his third in a row after dropping a split decision to Brendson Ribeiro, but because he is 0-3 in his first three fights with the promotion. He came in hot out of the Contender Series with seven straight wins, but it’s like the saying goes: “some people can hit home runs in the minors, but can’t swing the bat in the majors.” And that seems to be the case with Machado, who could be on the chopping block after kicking off his UFC career win-less in three attempts. And since UFC is cutting fighters in record numbers as of late, Machado should be very nervous.
