“Chaos” actually wants to fight a top contender.

It has been almost a year since former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Welterweight champion Colby Covington gave an absolute stinker of a performance against then-UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296.

For the most part, Covington has been silent other than an interview here and there to try and keep himself relevant in the 170 lb division. There was a potential fight with Ian Garry on the table multiple times this year, but it never came to fruition. Oh, and he put rapper Lil Pump to sleep.

However, yesterday (Nov. 7, 2024), Covington told Submission Radio that he’s considering a fight between himself and undefeated Jack Della Maddalena.

“We’ve been talking about this fight with Jack Della Maddalena. I think it makes a lot of sense,” Covington said. “He got a big win in my hometown of Miami last time he was out here. So, he has a little bit of a name out here, and he’s undefeated. He’s hungry. He’s fearless. You know, he’s an exciting fighter. So, I think that’s a fight that the fans would be intrigued with. I think it’s a high-level fight, and it’s a top-contender fight that establishes the next contender for the belt.”

Pigs must be flying, and hell has frozen over because Covington is interested in a young, dangerous, undefeated contender – not a fighter on the last leg of their career like Stephen Thompson.

Nevertheless, Covington also provided a timeline for his return in the first quarter of 2025.

“Chaos” has zero wins over anyone in the Welterweight Top 15.
