Celebrity pugilist Jake Paul is set to box former WBC heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on Netflix tonight (Fri., Nov. 15, 2024), an eight-round, professionally-sanctioned showdown staged inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
So how much is each combatant getting paid?
Promoters have yet to release the official purses and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has remained tight-lipped on just about everything related to the event. That said, industry insiders have a rough estimate of $60 million.
$40 million for Paul, $20 million for Tyson, according to USA Today Sports.
In the “Paul vs. Tyson” co-main event, Amanda Serrano rematches Katie Taylor for the super lightweight title. Serrano will reportedly bank $8 million for their 10-round do-over, according to Irish Mirror, with Taylor taking home $6.1 million.
Taylor is predicting a victory for Tyson, the betting underdog.
“How much do you want to bet?” Paul asked her during the final press conference.
“Do you want to bet your purse?” Taylor replied.
“Yeah, let’s bet the purse,” Paul said. “Deal.”
Paul, 27, has made a staggering amount of money from his “sweet science” career, even out-earning Canelo Alvarez back in 2021. How long this circus continues may depend on his performance against Tyson, who seems more interested in homicide than goofy belts.
