UFC 310 went down last night (Sat., Dec. 7, 2024) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, which saw Alexandre Pantoja defeat Kai Asakura via second-round submission (see it again here). In the co-main event, Shavkat Rakhmonov defeated Ian Machado Garry via unanimous decision (recap here), while Ciryl Gane won a highly-controversial split-decision over Alexander Volkov in Heavyweight action.

Biggest Winner: Alexandre Pantoja

Pantoja secured his third straight title defense by putting on a brilliant performance for as long as it last against newcomer and former RIZIN Bantamweight champion, Kai Asakura, submitting him in the second round via rear-naked choke. That is now seven straight wins for the Brazilian champion, who is quickly running out of contenders to face, which is why he called out former division king, Demetrious Johnson. Nevertheless, Pantoja’s star keeps getting brighter after every fight, especially after taking out a man many felt would come in and wow UFC fans right away. If he runs out of fresh faces to defeat he might have to consider moving up a weight class to get challenged.

Runner Up: Shavkat Rakhmonov

Despite having a title fight locked up against Belal Muhammad, Rakhmonov decided he didn’t want to wait around for “Remember The Name” to get healthy in order to get a paycheck, opting to take a fight against the always-dangerous Ian Garry, who was 15-0 coming into the event. And while it wasn’t exactly the full-on dominance we’ve seen from Rakhmonov, he did do enough to get the nod on all of the scorecards. As a result, he improves his mint record to 19-0, 7-0 UFC and retains his championship fight. In the process, his stock goes up because he took a risk to prove that he’d fight anyone, anywhere and he came out on top.

UFC 310: Weidman v Anders

Biggest Loser (s): Chris Weidman and Lukasz Brzeski

Weidman suffered yet another disappointing defeat, this time getting pummeled by Eryk Anders on the undercard. The former Middleweight champion of the world was visibly tired as the fight went on and simply didn’t have much to offer “Ya Boi.” With the defeat, “All American” drops to 1-3 in his last four fights, and and 3-7 in his last 10. That’s a big drop for the former champion, who could be nearing potential retirement following his latest setback. As for Brzeski, he was our fighter who we felt needed a win the most coming into the event due to the fact that that he was just 1-3 in his first four tries inside the Octagon. When it was all said and done, Kennedy Nzechukwu sent him home with his second straight defeat via devastating knockout. With a record of 1-5 under the UFC banner, I wouldn’t be too surprised if he gets his walking papers in the very near future.
