OUCH!
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Bantamweight veteran Davey Grant secured a win at UFC Tampa this past weekend (Sat., Dec. 14, 2024) against Contender Series contract winner Ramon Taveras, scoring a unanimous decision from inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.
Grant’s hard-fought win was even more impressive because the U.K. fighter revealed on social media that he had been dealing with a gnarly toe injury.
“Kicking was a huge part of the gameplan as always,” Grant wrote on Instagram. “Trouble is I broke my second toe on my right foot 6 weeks out and then damn near severed my left little toe 3 weeks out, needing 5 stitches underneath so deep that the risk of losing it or infection were a definite possibility. Both injuries were sustained in cage sparring rounds. This made training really tricky, wearing lots of extra protection and taking lots of different precautions, but the support and treatment I had at the UFC P.I. was fantastic, as well as the due care and consideration of the coaches and training partners at Syndicate MMA we got there healthy and firing on all cylinders. Forever grateful.”
Considering how much Grant kicked in his fight at UFC Tampa, it’s pretty amazing that his foot, with all of the toe injuries, came out pretty unscathed for the most part.
Grant, 38, is back in the winning column after a very controversial split decision loss to Daniel Marcos at UFC London last year.
