Walker went undefeated (2-0) with two stoppages when he fought for Strikeforce at the age of 47. Now, he’s set to become Trump’s Bahamas Ambassador.
Former football star-turned mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter-turned politician, Herschel Walker, may have lost his bid to become a Georgia senator, but he’ll still get to stay in politics thanks to an official appointment from incoming president, Donald Trump.
Trump announced the news on his Truth Social account.
“I am pleased to nominate Herschel Walker as United States Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas,” he wrote. “During my First Term, he served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.”
That’s not the only link the two share. Walker was on season two of Celebrity Apprentice, where he made it to week nine before being fired over an uninspired, “Chicken of the Sea” jingle.
“Congratulations Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!”
Walker is best known for his football career where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1982 and carried the Dallas Cowboys offense from 1986-1988. Combat fans may remember Walker from his iffy stint in MMA where he fought twice for Strikeforce from 2010-2011.
While the 47-year-old earned a perfect record (2-) with two technical knockout stoppages, it was clear Walker wouldn’t fare well against anyone who wasn’t brought into Strikeforce specifically to fight him.
Following those two bouts, Walker called for a fight in UFC, which never materialized. When his good friend, Scott Coker, ended up in Bellator MMA, he teased a comeback at 54-years-old, but that never materialized, either.
It’s that same level of tenacity that kept him in politics after numerous scandals tanked his run for senator in Georgia. Now, he’s getting rewarded with a cushy diplomatic gig … and hopefully doesn’t use his links (from Trump to White) to push for anymore fights.
