Australian contender Della Maddalena vs. former champion Edwards is a banger of a fight, and it could very well end up at the top of UFC’s next U.K. card.
Bad news for Australian fans hoping to see Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 312 in Sydney this February. It looks like JDM could be taking a trip to England instead to compete at UFC Fight Night London on March 22nd.
Australian fight breaker Benny P has been the first to announce several of Jack Della’s UFC fights, and in a new YouTube video he reports that sources close to Della Maddalena’s camp are saying he’ll be fighting former welterweight champion Leon Edwards.
“It does seem like this is gonna happen, I’ve heard it from multiple sources from the JDM camp,” Benny P said. “I just can’t imagine that all these people are hearing this if there’s no weight to it. Especially because it doesn’t appear like it’s going to be Usman at all.”
“I don’t know what’s going on with Usman, to be honest with you,” he added. “I don’t know why Usman is out of this equation because it was looking very likely that it was going to be Usman vs. Jack Della, so I’m not sure what has happened to Usman, if he’s injured, if they found another opponent? But it does very likely we’re going to see Jack Della Maddalena vs. Leon Edwards in London, March 22nd.”
Della Maddalena hasn’t competed since a TKO win over Gilbert Burns in March 2024. It was an impressive victory, made more so by the revelation that the Australian broke his arm badly early in the fight but dug deep and earned the W. Unfortunately, that arm hasn’t healed properly — Jack dealt with multiple infections and four surgeries over the past several months.
A fight with Leon Edwards would certainly jump start him right back into the title picture at 170 pounds. Let’s hope it comes together. While Benny P has a pretty flawless record at announcing Australia-related fights in general and Jack Della fights specifically, even he admits fight plans can change on a dime.
