Female flyweight Rosi ‘The Surgeon’ Sexton (12-2) may not be one of the big names in women’s mixed martial arts but when she is certainly one of the more intelligent fighters out there, and when she speaks people listen to what she has to say.
With the recent suspension of former Strikeforce champ Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Santos, Sexton put together an interesting piece entitled “Now we can all stop pretending” over at BloodyElbow.com, and followed it up with an interview on The MMA Show with host Mauro Ranallo.
During the interview, she talks about the pressures to succeed as a mixed martial artist admitting that she too has been tempted to “cheat” but has managed to stay away from such things as steroids.
“I would be lying if I said I had never considered using performance enhancing drugs. There is always that moment. It’s that thought that everyone else is doing it. You get a pretty good sense or who in your weight division or your potential opponents may or may not be using performance enhancing drugs. You look at it and say, I’ve got this fight coming up. I have to be honest, it’s crossed my mind. I’ve never done it and I’m glad that I’ve never done it. I want to be able to look back on my career and say whatever I achieved, I achieved naturally.”
