Not only will Islam Makhachev be defending his 155-pound title against Arman Tsarukyan, he’ll also be risking his top spot in the promotion’s pound-for-pound rankings.

The latest UFC rankings have been updated in the wake of last weekend’s UFC Vegas 101 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, the first such refresh of the promotion’s 2025 fight campaign. Most of the categories remained the same as they did at the close of 2024, including the strawweight division, since Mackenzie Dern was already ranked two spots above Amanda Ribas ahead of today’s update. Dern avenged her loss to the Brazilian by way of third-round submission.

That said, the latest UFC rankings could be the last with Islam Makhachev atop the hotly-contested pound-for-pound chart. UFC CEO, Dana White, believes heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who also held gold at 205 pounds, deserves top billing; however, the media continues to rank Makhachev in the No. 1 spot. Losing his lightweight strap to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311 this weekend in Los Angeles will undoubtedly move “Bones” to the head of the class.

Here’s how the rankings are compiled, at least until AI takes over:

Rankings are generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.

Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
