UFC Vegas 102 went down last night (Sat., Feb. 15, 2025) inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring a thrilling Middleweight bout that saw former 185-pound title contender, Jared Cannonier, knockout Gregory Rodrigues in in the fourth round (see it again here). In the co-main event, Youssef Zalal defeated Calvin Kattar via unanimous decision … then issued a stern family-related warning at UFC Vegas 102’s post-fight press conference (watch that here).

Biggest Winner: Jared Cannonier
Coming off two straight “defeats,” Cannonier appeared to be headed toward his third straight loss in the opening round after getting dropped twice. He continued to get battered for the next two rounds. While “Killa Gorilla” hung tough, it appeared the defeat was around the corner. Undeterred, the long-time veteran starting to turn things around in the closing seconds of round three, dropping his monstrous opponent with a nasty elbow. If he had a few more seconds to work, he more than likely would have score the finish. No fret, because once round four started, Cannonier unloaded a barrage of combinations that signaled the end for “Robo Cop,” giving “Killa Gorilla” a wild and impressive comeback win. Aside from snapping his two-fight skid, Cannonier earned the admiration of his colleagues, as well as a cool $50,000 check. Not a bad night at the the office for the 40-year-old “gatekeeper.”

Runner (s) Up: Youssef Zalal, Edmen Shahbazyan
After suffering a three-fight losing streak in an eight-month span from Oct. 2020 to June 2021 — with a majority draw shortly thereafter — Zalal has now found his groove to the tune of racking up seven straight wins, which includes his big victory over the No. 10-ranked Kattar last night. As a result, “The Moroccan Devil” could be enjoying his first ranking spot in his UFC career come next week. As for Shahbazyan, he locked down a much-needed win (and in impressive fashion might I add), starching Dylan Budka in little more than 90 seconds of the first round (see it again here). Now, “The Golden Child” will look to use the momentum to collect his first back-to-back wins in six years in his next bout. He also collected his second $50,000 post-fight bonus award in his UFC career for the stunning finish.

Biggest Loser: Calvin Kattar
Coming into the event, “The Boston Finisher” earned our spot for the fighter we felt needed a win the most because he was coming into the event on a three fight losing skid. But, instead of turning things around, it only went further downhill for Kattar who came up short on the judges scorecards against Zalal, marking his seventh straight win (fourth inside the Octagon). As far as where Kattar goes from here is really hard to tell because a fourth straight loss would likely be cause for a release for just about any fighter not named Tony Ferguson. That said, he now faces a lot of uncertainty in the coming weeks since his last win came three years ago.
