Former UFC heavyweight ‘Big Sexy’ Sean McCorkle (14-2) is set to debut with Bellator Fighting Championships on March 9, 2012 on the preliminary card of Bellator 60 against fellow promotion newcomer Richard ‘Big Man’ White (15-12).
McCorkle confirmed the bout via Twitter (@BigSexyMcCorkle) noting that he would be facing White in a 280-lbs cathcweight bout.
Bellator 60 is scheduled to open the promotions Season Six with the featherweight quarterfinal bouts as well as a featherweight title bout between champ Joe Warren versus 2011 Summer Series featherweight tournament winner Pat Curran.
McCorkle made three appearances with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, going 1-2 in the Octagon. He debuted at UFC 119 submitting Mark Hunt at the Indianapolis event and would then go on to lose two straight. ‘Big Sexy’ would lose to Stefan Struve at UFC 124 and to Christian Morecraft at UFN 24. He was then subsequently released by the promotion.
In interviews with friend Matt Mitrione (The MMA Hour @ MMAFighting.com – don’t remember which episode), both fighters talked about the detrimental effects on McCorkle that the massive weight cut from over 300-lbs down to 265-lbs had on him.
McCorkle has since rattled four straight wins for various promotions and is expected to compete once more before his Bellator debut.
