Bellator Season Five Heavyweight Tournament finalist Thiago ‘Big Monster’ Santos (10-1, 1NC) stepped on the scales eleven pounds overweight tonight in Laredo, Texas for his bout versus fellow finalist Eric Prindle (7-1, 1NC) for the Bellator 62 event.

Santos weighed in at 277.8-lbs for his scheduled rematch with Prindle forcing the promotion to cancel the tournament final and award Prindle with the tournament win, the $100,000 prize money and a shot at heavyweight champ Cole Konrad.

Santos and Prindle had been scheduled to fight last Friday at Bellator 61, but the bout was pushed back after Prindle developed flu-like symptoms before the event.

It appears though, that Santos may have had trouble cutting weight for last weeks event also, which Prindle revealed to MMAFighting.com in a recent interview.

“What happened was, I was sick Tuesday and I was feeling a little bit better Wednesday,” Prindle revealed to MMAFighting.com. “Santos cut a lot of weight, and I guess he was still a little heavy, so they decided, since I was sick and Santos cut a lot of weight — I don’t know if he wouldn’t have made it or if he would have — but it being a (big) fight, they just gave us another week.”

This whole rematch was due to a “No Contest” being declared in their first meeting last November at Bellator 59 for the Season Five Heavyweight Final. With Prindle on his back on the mat, Santos threw a kick which landed to Prindle’s groin at 1:24 of the first round, leaving ‘The American Soldier’ unable to continue.

This Friday’s Bellator 62 event features the opening quarterfinal matches of the Season Six Lightweight Tournament which takes place at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, Texas.
