The Nevada State Athletic Commission held it’s hearing for former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal today, following a positive steroid test following the fighters win over Lorenz Larkin’s on January 7th.
The NSAC slapped ‘King Mo’ with a nine month licensing suspension which is retroactive to January, a $39,000 fine and had the result of the bout changed to a “No Contest” from a second round knockout victory.
Lawal spoke to the commission, sticking to his previous statement, that he had used a supplement which unknowingly contained an ingredient which led to the positive steroid test.
In previous interviews, Lawal has said he would take whatever punishment was coming reiterating those words today to the commission.
“I appreciate you letting me come and tell my side of the story, and whatever punishment you all took for me, I’m a man, and I’ll take it like a man,” said Lawal.
The suspension runs it’s course in September, allowing him to apply for a new license at that time. He will though, have to complete a pre-fight drug test before his next fight, or the next time he fights under the NSAC’s jurisdiction.
Lawal is currently recovering from a very bad staph infection in his knee following surgery, one which could have cost him his leg and his life.
