Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal (8-1, 1NC) has reportedly been released from contract. This following a nine month suspension for Lawal by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
MMAjunkie.com confirmed the news with UFC president Dana White, after Lawal took to Twitter (@KingMoFH) to voice his opinion on today’s hearing.
Lawal was in Nevada to meet with the NSAC over a positive steroid test following a win over Lorenz Larkins this past January 7th at a Strikeforce event. The fighter was slapped with a nine month licensing suspension, a $39,000 fine, and the result of the win was changed to a “No Contest”.
‘King Mo’ was asked by one of the commission members, Pat Lundvall, during Tuesday’s proceedings if he could read or speak English.
This was Lawal’s response on Twitter “I honestly feel like Lundvall was a racist bitch asking me if I can read or speak english. Go on somewhere with that bullshit bitch!!! Lundvall….I’m college educated. Get your mind right!”
“Its funny how people are tryna say that I’m callin the commission racist. No!! They aren’t. But there was one person on the panel that was out of line with the question she asked me. I found it insulting, prejudice, and a lil racist. I say racist from my past experiences, I have been asked that in the past as an insult.”
This would not be the first time UFC president Dana White has punished someone for saying something controversial on Twitter, as White released bantamweight Miguel Torres last year following a comment about a “rape van”. Torres has since made amends for his actions and is back in the UFC.
