MMA veteran Gilbert Yvel improved to 2-0 as a light heavyweight on Friday, as “The Hurricane” knocked out Houston Alexander in the first round of their Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2 main event at the Viaero Event Center, Kearney, NE.

Alexander was doing a good job picking Yvel apart with jabs and leg kicks, however, with just over a minute remaining in the first round, Yvel connected with a big counter left hook followed by a right hand, which left Alexander lying flat on his face.

The win improves Yvel’s record to 38-16-1 (1 NC), while Alexander falls to 13-8 (2 NC). The 35-year-old Yvel is now 2-0 since leaving the UFC in Oct. 2010.

RFA 2 featured a lot of familiar names, including recent TUF Live castoff Dakota Cochrane, who lost to Cliff Wright via first-round rear-naked choke submission. In addition, 50-year-old veteran Maurice Smith won his first fight since 2008, defeating Jorge Cordoba via third-round head kick knockout, and women’s MMA star Tara LaRosa defeated Kelly Warren via armbar submission with just one second remaining in their fight.
