The Bellator Fighting Championships promotion has released two of it’s bantamweight fighters after losses in the opening quarterfinal round of the Season Six Bantamweight Tournament.

Handed pink slips were former Cuban Olympic medalist Alexis ‘Exorcist’ Vila (11-2) and Japanese fighter Masakatsu Ueda (15-2-2).

News of their release was confirmed by Sherdog.com on Monday.

Vila was eliminated in the quarterfinals last Friday at Bellator 65 after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Luis Nogueira at the Atlantic City event. It was the second straight loss for the ‘Exorcist’ who lost in the final of the Season Five tournament last November to current champ Eduardo Dantas. Vila may be best remembered for his knockout win over former featherweight champ Joe Warren last September at Bellator 51.

Ueda debuted with Bellator at Bellator 64 just a few weeks ago, losing a lack-luster decision to underdog Travis Marx. The loss ended a five fight win streak for the former Shooto champion who holds a title defencse win over newly crowned Bellator champ Dantas back in July 2009. Out of Ueda’s fifteen wins, he’s earned ten of them by decision over his career.
