Former UFC, and Bellator lightweight, Roger ‘El Matador’ Huerta (21-6-1, 1NC) has found his way across the Pacific Ocean, signing with the One Fighting Championship promotion.
The once highly touted 155-lbs fighter is set to make his promotional debut on June 23, 2012 at the upcoming ONE FC: Destiny of Warriors event set for the Stadium NEgara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
News of his signing was announced by MMAFighting.com who confirmed the news with Huerta’s manager Ali Abdei Aziz of Dominance MMA.
No opponent was named for Huerta, but another Dominance MMA fighter was named as having signed with ONE FC in Gregor Gracie.
Huerta has often trained in Asia finds himself competing for the first time outside of the United States in a professional mixed martial arts bout.
‘El Matador’ will look to end a three fight losing skid as well as improving a 1-5 record from the past four years. Huerta was last in action in November where he fought at welterweight against War Machine (aka John Kopenhaver) at the inaugural UWF 1 event in Texas. War Machine went on to win by third round TKO, utilizing his size in the match.
That 2011 bout was the only match of 2011 for Huerta who competed for Bellator three times, winning in the opening season 2 lightweight tournament and then losing to Pat Curran in the semifinals. Huerta would then go on to face Eddie Alvarez in a non-title fight, losing by second round TKO.
