UFC on FX 4 took place June 22, 2012, at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. Former UFC lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard (11-1-1, 1 NC) took on fellow contender Clay Guida (29-13) in the night’s peculiar main event. Catch the video highlights below.

Round 1: Dan Miragliotta is the main-event referee. An intense staredown gets things started. The braided Guida is all motion at the beginning, making it difficult for Maynard to find his range. Guida lands a left hand. Maynard connects with a left hook about 90 seconds in. Both guys whiff on kicks. Guida still bobbing, weaving, ducking and darting. Two minutes left, not much doing aside from Guida’s relentless movement. Neither wrestler has attempted a takedown. One minute left. Guida lands one on Maynard’s chin and Maynard lands a counter left. Guida with a looping right. Round comes to a close. MMAFighting scores the round for Clay Guida, 10-9.
Round 2: Maynard claims an eye poke early, Big Dan grants a time-out and the crowd jeers. Back at it. Round two similar to round one so far. Where Clay Guida gets his energy from I’ll never know. Two minutes in. Maynard seems to be almost overthinking out there, still isn’t doing much besides the occasional counter. Guida with a push kick and a right, Maynard fans on a high kick, looking to set up the right hand. Maynard controlling the Octagon better this round. Nine minutes into the fight, neither guy has gone for a takedown. Fans getting restless. Guida with a high kick that lands, followed by a combo. Round 3: Maynard comes out swinging. Guida sticking to his game plan, though, and gets out of Maynard’s range. Guida does the Ali Shuffle. Maynard goes for a pair of takedown attempts about 90 seconds in, but Guida gets underhooks and fends him off. Maynard whiffs on a right uppercut. Maynard starting to look frustrated. Maynard chases Guida, misses on several punches as he pursues Guida, and is visibly frustrated. Superb defense and footwork from Guida, but he’s done little on offense. Maynard hits a pair of knees in the Muay Thai clinch late. MMAFighting scores the round for Gray Maynard, 10-9 (29-28 overall).
Round 4: More of the same in the opening minute. Maynard with a takedown attempt, can’t get it, but Maynard grabs him in a Thai clinch and lands a knee. Guida escapes and is once again circling. Guida lands a jab. Maynard with a right hand. It feels like Guida took Frankie Edgar’s playbook and tore out the part where he actually goes in and engages Maynard. Maynard goes in for a takedown with about 1:15 left, and this time, Maynard lands several knees in the clinch. Guida gets away. Maynard is taunting and trash-talking Maynard. Guida gets a tight guillotine, but Guida manages to escape. This suddenly got interesting. MMAFighting scores the round for Gray Maynard, 10-9 (38-38 overall).
Round 5: Maynard pursuing Guida. Guida hasn’t slowed down in the slightest. Guida with a high kick and follows with a combo. Maynard lands a heavy hand. Guida with an uppercut and Maynard with a left. Maynard whiffs on a single-leg attempt. Midway through and it’s either man’s round. Maynard’s frustration shows again. Two minutes left. Guida runs away and Big Dan warns him over timidity. I like it. Needs to be called more often. Ninety seconds left. Maynard goes for single leg, Guida defends it. Maynard stick with it though. Fight could come down to how this ends up. Guida with a knee on the ground, Maynard landing knees. Maynard lands a couple knees. Back in center Octagon, 10 seconds left, and that’s how it ends. Maynard refuses to shake hands with Guida after the fight. MMAFighting scores the round for Gray Maynard, 10-9 (48-47 overall).
