On Tuesday, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker made the upcoming Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman official by confirming the date and venue during a media call for the promotions next event, Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy.

The Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman event will be headlined by a women’s bantamweight title match as champion Ronda ‘Rowdy’ Rousey (5-0) defends her strap for the first time versus No. 1 contender, and former champ, Sarah Kaufman (15-1).

Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman is scheduled for August 18, 2012 and will take place at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.

Tickets for the event will go on sale this Friday (June 29, 2012) with ticket details to be released very soon.

Currently there are only two other matches rumored for the event as welterweights Tarec Saffiedine (12-3) and Roger Bowling (11-2), along with light heavyweights Ovince St. Preux (11-5) vs. TJ Cook (12-4), are expected to meet.

Rousey has won five straight and debuted at bantamweight in her title fight with Miesha Tate last March. ‘Rowdy’ needed 4:27 to finish the wrestler using her patented armbar submission. It was the first time an opponent made it past the first minute as Rousey had finished all of her opponents quickly with an armbar submission.

Kaufman has gone 3-0 since losing the strap to Marloes Coenen back in October 2010. She recently defeated Alexis Davis in March winning a majority decision versus her fellow Canadian. Kaufman originally won the title by defeating Takayo Hashi in February 2010. She recently appeared in a video training with former women’s Stikeforce featherweight champ Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos.
