Brian Stann has won the Michael Bisping sweepstakes.
According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Stann will meet Bisping on Sept. 22 at UFC 152 in Toronto. Both Stann and Bisping have verbally agreed to the fight but have yet to sign bout agreements.
In addition to that fight, the pay-per-view will be headlined by Joseph Benavidez vs. Demetrious Johnson for the inaugural UFC flyweight title.
Stann and Alan Belcher have been openly campaigning for a shot at Bisping during the last couple of weeks. In fact, at a UFC 148 pool party last week in Las Vegas the middleweights were seen trying to convince UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to give them the Brit next.
Stann (12-4) most recently defeated Alessio Sakara in April. He was scheduled to fight Hector Lombard at UFC on FOX 4, however, he pulled out of the fight last month due to an injured shoulder.
Bisping (22-4) lost to Chael Sonnen via unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 2 in January. He later pulled out of a UFC 149 fight against Tim Boetsch due to an injured knee.
Benavidez (16-2) won his UFC flyweight debut in March when he defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani via TKO, while Johnson (15-2-1) punched his ticket to the finals of the 125-pound tournament by beating Ian McCall via unanimous decision last month in Florida.
UFC 152, which will also feature B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald, will take place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Stann vs. Bisping will serve as the night’s co-main event. The main card will air live on pay-per-view.
