Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament champion, and former Olympic wrestler, Daniel Cormier (10-0) will fight for the promotion for the last time on September 29th.

Officials with the promotion announced the date during Saturday nights Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy broadcast.

No opponent or venue was identified for event.

Cormier won the tournament this past May putting an end to the Grand Prix which started almost a year-and-a-half ago by defeating Josh Barnett via unanimous decision in a very entertaining bout. Both he and Barnett suffered broken hands in the bout. Cormier appears to be on the mend then if he has a date for his next fight.

The American Kickboxing Academy fighter started as an alternate in the tournament, defeating Jeff Monson in June 2011 by decision. Cormier would then go on to face Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, and would finish the Brazilian by first round knockout after replacing an injured Alistair Overeem in the tournament. The victory put Cormier into the final.

Once this bout is complete, Cormier will be free to move over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and depending on how this September match ends, may put him in title contention for the UFC strap.
