Fight cards usually take shape in bits and pieces, a Tweet there and a rumor here.
On Tuesday night, though, UFC on FX 5 pretty much came together all at once.
The company officially announced six bouts for the October 5 event at Minneapolis’ Target Center, some of which had already been rumored.
Here’s the rundown:
At heavyweight, Rob Broughton and Matt Mitrione will finally meet after their originally scheduled date at UFC on FOX 4 had to be scrapped. The British Broughton, the former Cage Rage champion, has lost his past two UFC bouts, while Mitrione is looking to shake off his UFC 137 loss to Cheick Kongo.
Josh “The Dentist” Neer returns to action to meet Justin Edwards at welterweight. Neer had a six-fight win streak snapped last month when he was knocked out by Mike Pyle. Edwards, an Ultimate Fighter 13″competitor, has gone the distance in all three of his UFC bouts, losing two.
Veteran Bart Palszewksi will meet Diego Nunes at featherweight. Nunes has been with Zuffa since 2008 and has dropped two of his past three fights, to Denis Siver and Kenny Florian. Palaszewski, a veteran of 51 pro fights, is coming off a UFC 144 loss to Hatsu Hioki.
Palaszewski-Nunes was first set for the original Sept. 5 date in Indianapolis targeted for UFC on FX 5, which later fell through.
In a pair of flyweight bouts, Louis Gaudinot will take on Darren Uyenoyama and John Dodson squares off with Jussier da Silva. Gaudinot earned fight of the night honors in submitting John Lineker at UFC on FOX 3; Uyenoyama won his UFC debut against “Kid” Yamamoto in November. At 14-1, the Brazilian da Silva is considered one of the world’s top flyweights; Dodson, the TUF 14 bantamweight winner, has won four in a row.
Rounding things out in a lightweight bout, Carlo Prater will meet Marcus LeVesseur.
These fights join a previously announced heavyweight bout between unbeaten Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
