The U.S. men’s freestyle team is certainly having a better Olympic run than their Greco-Roman counterparts. Just one day after Jordan Burroughs earned a gold medal at 74kg, former Oklahoma State University cowboy Coleman Scott wrestled his way to a bronze medal. He beat Japan’s Kenichi Yumoto 0-1, 3-0, 3-1.

Scott made it to the semifinals where he stopped by the eventual gold medalist, Azerbaijan’s 19-year old phenom Toghrui Asgarov.

In addition to a bronze medal, Scott will also pick up $25,000 from the Living The Dream Fund.

Scott defeated Shawn Bunch at the ‘Beat the Streets’ event in Times Square in New York City. Bunch then announced his signing with Bellator as he left wrestling for a career in mixed martial arts.

America’s other wrestling Olympians today did not perform as well as Scott. 120kg rep Tervel Dlagnev placed fifth after losing to Komeil Ghasemi of Iran 4-0, 0-1, 1-0. 84kg’s Jake Herbert had a rough outing. He lost to eventual gold medalist Sharif Sharifov in the quarterfinals, but due partly to a controversial call that deprived Herbert of three points. In the repechage round, Herbert dropped his match to Turkey’s ?brahim Bolukbasi 1-0, 0-4, 4-5.

America’s Jared Frayer at 66kg and Jake Varner at 96kg wrestle tomorrow.
