Icelandic prospect Gunnar Nelson (10-0-1) has agreed to meet Justin Edwards (8-2) in a welterweight bout at UFC on FUEL 7, UFC officials announced on Thursday.
UFC on FUEL 7 takes place February 16, 2013 at the Wembley Arena in London, England. The pair join a card already featuring an interim bantamweight title bout between Renan Barao and Michael McDonald, plus Dennis Siver vs. Cub Swanson, Che Mills vs. Matthew Riddle, and the return of Jimi Manuwa.
Submission wizard Nelson, 24, exceeded expectations by coldly dispatching DaMarques Johnson via rear-naked choke in just three minutes for his UFC debut. The quick finish maintained Nelson’s spotless record, as all 10 of his victories have ended before reaching the judges’ hand.
Across the cage, former TUF 13 competitor Edwards, 29, looks to piece together his first winning streak under the Zuffa banner. Since suffering a knockout at the hands of eventual season winner Tony Ferguson in the opening round of the show, Edwards has alternated wins and losses, falling to Clay Harvison and John Maguire, but defeating Jorge Lopez and Josh Neer, the latter of which ended in 45 seconds and scored Edwards “Submission of the Night” honors at UFC on FX 5.
