UFC heavyweight Pat Barry earned himself the second Knockout of the Night award on Saturday night at The Joint in The Hard Rock Hote and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday night when he stopped Shane del Rosario in the second round of their bout. He – and all the bonus award winners – took him an extra $40,000 for his efforts at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.
Amidst a night of six stoppages either by KO or TKO (although one of those mostly being the result of multiple slams), Barry likely stood out for the particularly brutal nature of the victory. Barry landed a thudding overhand left followed by two right hands that nearly put del Rosario out cold. Barry has won four post-fight awards, two for knockouts and two for Fight of the Night.
Submission of the Night honors went to UFC welterweight T.J. Waldburger for his second-round triangle choke victory of Nick Catone. After a difficult first round, Waldburger was able to choke Catone unconscious. This marks Waldburger’s second time earning the distinction, the first coming against Mike Stumpf at UFC Fight Night: Shields vs. Ellenberger.
Fight of the Night honors were given to Jared Papazian and Tim Elliot for their flyweight bout which opened the show. In a back and forth battle where both competitors took substantial damage and had near fight-ending moments, it was Elliot’s grappling that ultimately earned him the unanimous decision nod. This is the first time either Elliot or Papazian has earned a post-fight bonus.
UFC officials announced The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale pulled 2,500 to The Joint for a live gate of $318,525.
