The 14-year veteran announced his retirement from the sport this week. Sportsnet.ca first reported the news on Thursday.
MacDonald, a native of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, was most recently knocked out by Tom Lawlor at UFC on FUEL TV 3 in May. He retires with an MMA record of 25-16 and a UFC record of 6-8.
“The Athlete” was called the “TUF Killer” when he started his UFC career in 2006 because he impressively defeated The Ultimate Fighter cast members Ed Herman and Chris Leben in his first two UFC fights.
The 37-year-old’s last win inside the Octagon came against Ryan Jensen at the record-breaking UFC 129 event in April 2011.
