Returning UFC welterweight Nate Marquardt and three others received extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC 158, Montreal’s sanctioning body, the Régie des alcools des courses et des jeux, confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
Marquardt will be sidelined for 60 days after suffering a first-round knockout at the hands of Jake Ellenberger on UFC 158’s pay-per-view main card.
Undercard fighters Issei Tamura, Daron Cruickshank and Reuben Duran also received 45-day suspensions in the wake of losses. Tamura crumbled in the second round to the attack of T.J. Dillashaw, while both Cruickshank and Duran fell short in unanimous decisions to John Makdessi and George Roop, respectively.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and his adversary, Nick Diaz, headlined the remaining group of 20 fighters to receive suspensions lasting 30 days or less. St-Pierre and Diaz will be sidelined 28 days for precautionary reasons, while both Johny Hendricks and Carlos Condit cut that number in half, landing minor 14-day suspensions.
