No. 9 ranked lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan believes he is the man that can beat new UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Arman Tsarukyan will be back in action this Saturday night as he returns to The APEX in Las Vegas for a co-main event clash with Damir Ismagulov. Speaking to reporters at the UFC Fight Night media event on Wednesday, Tsarukyan shared his belief that he is the only man that can potentially beat Makhachev inside the Octagon.
“Islam is on a different level,” said Tsarukyan. “His wrestling is good; his striking is good. I know one guy who can beat him: It’s me.”
Arman Tsarukyan Wants Rematch With Islam Makhachev
Arman Tsarukyan previously met Islam Makhachev during his promotional debut back in April 2019. The Armenian lightweight came up short, losing to Makhachev via unanimous decision. Believing he gave the current 155-pound king the biggest test of his MMA career, Tsarukyan wants another crack at Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s protege.
“If I’m gonna beat Damir and some of the top five, the UFC is gonna give me that opportunity (against Makhachev), because it was my debut, and I gave him the toughest fight in his career.”
First, Arman Tsarukyn will need to get past streaking lightweight Damir Ismagulov. ‘Qazaq’ has not experienced a defeat since 2015. Debuting inside the Octagon in 2018, Ismagulov, now sitting in the No. 12 spot on the lightweight rankings, has earned five straight under the UFC banner. A victory on Saturday night will likely push him into the division’s top 10, taking Tsarukyan’s No. 9 spot.
On the other hand, Tsarukyan is coming off his first loss in more than three years, dropping a unanimous decision to Mateusz Gamrot in June. In order to stay relevant in the lightweight title picture, Tsarukyan will need to deliver a strong showing against the always-dangerous Ismagulov.

Bobby Green doesn’t think Paddy Pimblett belongs in the UFC.
MMA veteran Bobby Green has branded former Cage Warriors featherweight champion turned UFC lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett an ‘amateur fighter’ that doesn’t belong in the UFC.
Green’s comments come after Pimblett’s latest performance at UFC 282 where he defeated Jared Gordon via unanimous decision. Although Pimblett won the fight, most pundits had him losing, with 23 of 24 media outlets scoring the bout in favor of Gordon.
If Pimblett is struggling with the likes of Gordon, Green dreads to think how he would fare against a veteran such as himself, suggesting that it would be disrespectful if they were to share the same cage.
“Paddy would never take that fight, Paddy would never take that fight, okay. I know for a fact he would never take the fight,” Green told Eurosport. ahead of Saturday’s matchup with Drew Dober. “He doesn’t have enough skills to even dance with me. It would actually be disrespectful if they put him in there with me. I’d have to get rid of him really fast because it would be disrespect if we are in the same cage. He doesn’t even belong there, I actually think he’s an amateur fighter, he’s not even a professional, he’s an amateur.”
But still, Green wouldn’t say no to a possible fight with Pimblett, admitting that it would be fun to fight ‘The Baddy’ for ‘sh-ts and giggles’.
“Of course, I would take it, I would take the easy money,” he said. “At the same time, it wouldn’t do anything for my brand after I did it,” Green said. “It would be like, well he was supposed to. It wouldn’t do anything for me but I’d do it for shits and giggles.”
Green returns to the Octagon this Saturday when he takes on Drew Dober at UFC Fight Night 216 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has assembled a pivotal middleweight matchup for the upcoming UFC 286 pay-per-view (PPV) event, recently made official for Sat., March 18, 2022 at The O2 Arena in London, England.
Marvin Vettori vs. Roman Dolidze, according to ESPN.
Vettori (18-6-1) is looking to rebound from his unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker at the UFC Paris event back in September. Prior to that, “The Italian Dream” rattled off a 6-1 record dating back to his Israel Adesanya loss at UFC on FOX 29 in early 2018.
Dolidze (12-1) is on a torrid four-fight wining streak, which includes his technical knockout win over Jack Hermansson at UFC Orlando earlier this month. The 34 year-old Georgian is currently ranked No. 8 in the middleweight division, four spots below Vettori.
A potential spot in the division Top 5 hangs in the balance.
UFC 286 does not yet have an official main event, but reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards is expected to defend his 170-pound title. It’s just a question of whether or not Kamaru Usman will be healthy enough to run it back by the time March rolls around.
Expect more UFC 286 fight card announcements in the coming weeks.
