Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker knows a lot of people are counting him out ahead of his Israel Adesanya rematch at UFC 271.

After losing his title to Adesanya at UFC 243, Whittaker has won three straight fights and has worked his way back to the champion. While Whittaker’s rise back to the title shot has been impressive, Adesanya’s recent defenses have been dominant.

There’s always a lot of pressure that comes with fighting for a world championship. But for Whittaker, he embraces it and isn’t worried by how fans perceive his chances in the rematch.

During a recent interview with Unibet Australia, Whittaker explained why the odds don’t bother him.

“I’m the underdog moving into this rematch with Adesanya,” Whittaker said. “(It) makes sense, you know. He already beat me once. He’s the current champ. He’s sitting at the high horse and he beat me the first time. It takes some of the pressure off, being the underdog.

“No one expects me to win. No one expects me to go over there and dethrone him after he beat me already. Throughout my whole career, I’ve loved being the underdog. I love getting in there and defying the odds. I like going in there and proving people wrong. It gives me that little bit of extra edge.” (h/t MMA Junkie)

The two Oceania rivals have remained unfriendly with one another in the buildup to their rematch. Whittaker has referred to Adesanya as a “s**t person” in the past, and his apparent disdain for the champion hasn’t waned.

Whittaker most recently earned dominant wins over Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum in the Octagon. He’s remained arguably one of the top fighters in the world despite losing his title, even ranking #11 on the MMA News Top 100 Fighters of 2021 list.

Whittaker will have the opportunity to shock the world against Adesanya at UFC 271 and reclaim his throne against his rival.

Dana White, Ronda Rousey

UFC president Dana White spoke with one of his promotion’s biggest ever stars, Ronda Rousey about his past stance on Women’s MMA.

There was a time that White laughed when asked about the prospect of women competing on the highest platform in MMA. But after changing his mind, fighters such as Rousey, Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, and others have become global superstars.

Bellator president Scott Coker ceased on White’s reluctance to bring women to the UFC, signing massive stars in Strikeforce such as Rousey and Gina Carano. This prompted White to change his mind and ultimately it paid off in a big way.

During a recent sitdown with Rousey on her “Rowdy’s Places” show, White explained his reasoning for once thinking that women couldn’t compete in the UFC.

Dana White Explains 360-Degree Turn On Women In The UFC

“Everything in life is about timing,” White said. “When I was saying we’ll never have women in the UFC, I was having a hard enough time getting men fighting in a cage accepted let alone women. You approached me, and we had like a 45-minute conversation, and halfway through it I started going, ‘Oh my God, I think I’m gonna do this. And she’s definitely the one to do this with.”

“You think about when we first met, and you walked around these things, and nobody knew you, to you couldn’t walk anywhere. You were so big, and it happened like that. We know the formula, and we know when we’ve got the person, but you have to have somebody that’s willing to become that person.”

Rousey left the UFC following back-to-back losses to Holly Holm and Nunes. She retired from MMA as one of the UFC’s biggest superstars in the promotion’s history, and easily one of the most important.

UFC welterweight Kevin Holland has shared a video of him submitting social media troll to his Instagram.

Kevin Holland has quickly become a UFC fan favorite with his big personality in and outside along with his often comical posts on social media. The Trailblazer added to his legend today by sharing a video of him submitting a troll who had been trash-talking him over social media saying he would ‘submit’ Holland.

Holland, of course, being himself took the troll up on the offer and of course ‘Big Mouth’ was trash-talking him the whole time.

‘All I gotta say is even though your a blackbelt I’m positive I could sumbit you prove me wrong’ ‘Stop ducking me’ ‘Still ducking me’

What’s Next For Kevin Holland?

Holland had a rough 2021, going 0-2, 1 (NC) after a stellar break-out year in 2020 where he would go 5-0. The Texan will hope to reclaim his form of 2020 and with a permanent move back down to welterweight where his size will not be such a disadvantage for him, a big 2022 could be ahead.

Holland will return in March at UFC 272 where he will face veteran Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira on the undercard of Colby Covington v Jorge Masvidal. Oliveria is currently on a three-fight win streak, a form which Holland will be looking to take advantage of but Oliveria has proven a tricky opponent and will come motivated to break his losing streak.

Former UFC champion Conor McGregor is allegedly doing everything he can to be in the best shape possible ahead of his UFC return.

McGregor is working towards a comeback sometime later this year, and UFC president Dana White recently teased a return for the Irishman as soon as this summer. He’s been recovering from the leg break he suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

Many have wondered whether or not McGregor would opt to fight again with his wealth and other assets. But, judging by his social media posts and back-and-forths with his rivals, he seems motivated to face the best MMA talent.

During a recent Instagram post, McGregor reached out to his fans around the world and sent a message to those who believe he’s done competing.

Conor McGregor Says He’ll Quit Drinking Soon Ahead Of Fight Camp

“Sitting in actual awe at present. Can’t quite describe it,” McGregor said. “Last week, Saturday, the first day Ireland became free from restriction, and also coincidentally the anniversary of the late Arthur Guinness, @forgedirishstout outsold Guinness on premise for the first time. And everyday since! [Forged Irish Stout] is now the clear leader in Stout sales for us! All of us in this industry know, for a Stout to do this is just unprecedented! Incredible! The fact it happened for the first time on that day in particular, I feel it a sign that I am on the right path here with all of this! Onwards and upwards we go!

“For my fighting fans, I want to say I know I am enjoying myself with my liquid, but very soon I will be immersing myself in full training again with complete abstention from my wonderful creations of Spirit and Ale. Just 5 more minutes Ma.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

It’s unclear who McGregor will face in his return to the Octagon, but a few fighters have thrown their names into the conversation. Michael Chandler, Poirier, and Nate Diaz are just a few of the names who have teased a McGregor fight in 2022.

McGregor hasn’t won consecutive fights since 2016. His lone victory since then came against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246.

Craig and Krylov are ranked in the top-15 of the light heavyweight division.

UFC London is shaping up quite nicely, especially with the recent addition of a light heavyweight contest featuring ranked contenders.

The UFC confirmed that Paul Craig and Nikita Krylov are meeting at the upcoming Fight Night event set to take place on March 19 at the O2 Arena. Craig previously teased the fight during an appearance on Believe You Me, the podcast hosted by former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

Craig has gone 4-0-1 in his past five appearances. ‘Bearjew’ rebounded from a knockout loss to Alonzo Menifield at UFC on ESPN 3 with a ‘Performance of the Night’ awarded first-round rear-naked choke of Vinicius Moreira at UFC on ESPN+ 17 in 2019. The Scotsman then had a quick turnaround and met Maurício ‘Shogun’ Rua in Brazil, where they fought to a split draw.

A win over Gadzhimurad Antigulov soon followed, and the 34-year-old went on to rematch Rua. This time, Craig forced the Brazilian to tap to strikes in the second round. The No. 11 ranked contender recently extended his win streak at UFC 263 with a first-round TKO of Jamahal Hill, who had his arm dislocated after being locked up in what appeared to be a fight-ending armbar.

Krylov rejoined the UFC in late 2018 and has alternated wins and losses in his second run with the promotion. The ‘Miner’ has wins over Ovince Saint Preux and Johnny Walker wedged between losses to Jan Blachowicz, Glover Teixeira and Magomed Ankalaev.

UFC London is headlined by a heavyweight fight between Alexander Volkov and Tom Aspinall.
