A week after Bobby Green withdrew from his July 15 fight against Al Iaquinta, details have emerged about the extent of his injury.

According to Amanda Earley, the PR manager for Iridum Sports Agency, Green’s management team, “King” suffered a torn ACL and lateral meniscus while training for the fight. Their full statement is below:

“On Saturday, June 15, while training in his home gym in California, Bobby Green was injured through no fault of his own nor his training partner. It was determined this week that he will require surgery for a torn ACL and lateral meniscus. The surgery is scheduled for July 15 in California.  At this time, Bobby is estimated to be rehabilitated in time for an early (Jan./Feb.) 2016 return to the Octagon.

“He sends his respect to Al Iaquinta in hopes that they can, in fact, stand toe-to-toe for an exciting fight (not a track event) once he’s recovered.

“As always, he has much love and gratitude to his family, team, and fans for their support.”

Gilbert Melendez has since agreed to fight Iaquinta on one month’s notice in the co-main event of the UFC Fight Night San Diego card.

Head of UFC Europe abruptly leaves organization

David Allen, who was named the UFC’s senior vice president and general manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa just six months ago, has left the company.

The news was first reported by Fighters Only, and subsequently confirmed by MMAFighting.com.

Allen’s departure was sudden, as he just presided over the UFC Berlin event this past weekend. The company announced the news internally on Monday. No replacement has been found just yet.

The Irish-native took over for Garry Cook in January, who was promoted to UFC Chief Global Officer. Under Allen’s watch, the promotion held a stadium show in Stockholm, Sweden, which is the second-biggest show in UFC history, a successful debut event in Krakow, Poland, and another show in Berlin. The next “EMEA” event is scheduled for July 18 in Glasgow, Scotland, which sold out in minutes.

Prior to joining UFC, Allen worked previously for Adidas, Nike and UMBRO, heading up sales efforts and brand development for the EMEA region. Allen joined the UFC in 2013.
